It's usually Zimmer's more calm and introspective works that seem to draw me in. The deep-cut "Lac" from his latest album Amour is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.
The intro gradually creeps into the mid section of the track to form a long build-up. This creates tension and gives "Lac" a sense of mystique, especially thanks to the moody arrangement of the chords. By the time we reach the core, the glossy synths are surrounded by large brass embellishments to eventually immerse you into the experience.
