Oajy Morgan, aka Zebra (F***ing) Katz, has come a long way since we first reviewed him and no wonder - simple enough to get into your head and outrageous enough to engage, his works has all needed qualities of the modern underground hit. The dark lord of queer hip-hop has become a poster child of a culture, frantically shifting between the sub and the pop, where the music fuses with the visual to prove a sometimes unclear, mixed or controversial point.
In "Tear The House Up" Zebra Katz takes a step away from the minimalist sound to become more visually and musically ornate, while still keeping his typical dark, twisted and slightly psychotic vibe. The track is in collaboration with UK DJ and producer Hervé, who apparently brought with him his signature pop late 90's house bassline. Yet, the beat fits perfectly Zebra's rapping, which is far more dynamic than its usual slow and sinister paste, and together they create an awesomely entertaining sweaty, dirty club hit. And the video, directed by Brooklyn film collective Ghost+Cow is just awesome... unless you are severely color-blind. Then it's just OK.
