Ninja Tunes' latest release, "Alma's Cove" by Yuuf, is honestly one of my favorite finds this week. Thanks to the various influences they draw from, it's a listening experience rich with color.
The sound of the U.K.-based Yuuf is rooted in a deep desire to explore new sounds and textures informed by classic soul, psychedelia, and music from around the world. On "Alma's Cove", what immediately stood out was the presence of the handpan mingling with catchy guitar embellishments - something I don't hear very often. Among the seminal moments of the track is certainly the rhythm section, the drums are groovy and filled with surprises to keep the progression fascinating. It's clear to tell that Yuuf draws inspiration from acts such as Khruangbin, Donnie and Joe Emerson, and Mac De Marco.
