Soul-electro queen WALLACE is back with her long awaited EP Pole to Pole featuring some previously released tracks like "Raffled Roses" and new ones inspired by the equally incomparable as herself - Peter Pan, Charles Dickens and The Mighty Boosh.
The jazz trained singer tells the tail of never-growing with the smoothest voice and emotionally charged modulation. This sincerity probbaly comes naturally as very personal stories are intwined in her music. For example "Neverland" was inspired by a friend from her homeland New Zealand:
I have a friend in Wellington who has a Peter Pan quote tattooed on herself "If growing up means it would be beneath my dignity to climb a tree, I’ll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!" Being a big kid at heart, that really stuck with me. I dress like a 5 year old, put my feet up on the dashboard, watch Disney and have Nigella calling for my fairy bread recipe.
Was also really nice to sample my family at the beginning and end of the clip. I watched a whole lot of old VHS footage to grab those little gems! We set the Neverland scene on Christmas day and close on a (rare) sunny day in Wellington in a paddling pool with Dad practicing Scottish words.
WALLACE says she usually writes over beats that are sent to her but this one was produced by Mohi (also based in Sydney). WALLACE admits she loves playing this song live for a while now and we could definitely tell this.
