If you're looking for a track to make love to, then Violet Sands & Justin Faust's original track "What Do You Feel" is definitely your slow-motion electronica seduction.
Today, however, we're not gonna be making love. It's time to dance and since it's Friday, that Jean Tonique remix is just the perfect mood setter.
I quite liked the description I read about Violet Sands' music, so I'll share it with you before continueing with my disco adventures:
The music of Brooklyn-based Violet Sands is an ethereal soundtrack for a rite of passage, harnessing the alluring vocals of Deidre Muro (Deidre & the Dark, previously of Savoir Adore), the inventive production of David Perlick-Molinari (French Horn Rebellion) and the atmospheric guitar-scapes of Derek Muro (Love Like Deloreans, Mighty Five) to evoke the beauty and struggles of transitioning from one phase of life to another.
All that definitely sounds a solid base for French producer Jean Tonique who absolutely nailed re-doing the original. The slow-motioness is replaced by a mix of French house and nu-disco music, all that with a layer of groovy happiness.
When it comes to the original (which I actually plan to share soon too), Violet Sands share:
We met Justin while he was in New York visiting from Germany, introduced by Robert Perlick-Molinari (of our label and French Horn Rebellion) who suggested that we collaborate. In an afternoon, we began experimenting with the vintage synth collection at our studio – notably the Wurli, Roland and Oberheim instruments – embracing the early-aughts electronica influence, which came out even more once Deidre wrote the lyrics and added her vocals. After only a few hours, we had the shape of the song nearly complete and decided to meet for another session that week where the song really came together.
If you can, you gotta boogie to this tune.
