Vex King’s “The Moon in Malibu” is one of those chill-hop, lo-fi hip-hop tracks that is bound to brighten your day. The jazzy beat relaxes your mind and the guitar carries just the right amount of drive to get your creative juices flowing - the perfect balance.
Apart from the sweeping sense of chill (айляк) that seemingly flooded my apartment by the end of the song, I was completely taken by the British artist’s background and motivations for creating music. He went from homelessness and racial abuse to pursuing a career in fashion and music, working with Tinie Tempah and Wretch 32 to becoming “a major voice in the world of personal development and spiritual wisdom”. According to Vex King’s bio:
“During the quarantine period of 2020, Vex decided to temporarily return to music so that he could raise money for causes and organisations like the National Health Service.”
Whoa. Here’s to good, talented people doing their art, and supporting worthy causes that make our world a better place. We need more of it every day all over the globe.
