It has been a while since I've stumbled upon those kind of late night, mellow acoustic sounds we all play when feeling down. Vern Matz's "Iceboy" brought back some memories. Made me think of a few campfire nights out in the nature and while there I wasn't alone, the whole experience felt somehow lonely (in a good way).
The US-based band is a new find for me, but that doesn't really matter. "Iceboy" is one of the most touching, personal tracks I've heard in a long, long time. It makes the world stop for a little while.
The song is taken off their debut self-titled EP released earlier this month. Also, I found this short bio and felt like a good summary of what the guys represent and their sound:
Vern Matz is the lovechild of a philosophy major, an investment banker, and a boy with a David Foster Wallace tattoo. True students of alternative history, the trio showcase an earnest approach to songwriting, echoing the work of seminal artists such as Wilco, Pixies, and Mazzy Star, to name a few.
