While the world patiently awaits the first new wave of releases at the beginning of 2024, it's the perfect time to catch a breath and make sure we don't miss out on any gems from 2023. Verboten Berlin's music is certainly one of those things you want a front row for.
Inspired by the diverse club culture and heritage of Berlin, Alexander Freund channels his desire to create and collaborate through Verboten Berlin and the result is, as always, staggering. "You Said No", released on December 15th, is the latest single from his highly anticipated 2024 LP. This track, co-written and produced with Matthias Biermann, represents a fusion of the project's organic roots and the ongoing quest to align personal narratives with the evolving collaborative framework of the project.
A lush blend of UK garage with enigmatic synthwave elements further enhanced by a beautifully powerful bassline.
When it comes to the track inspiration, Alexander shares, "the song explores the paradox of the word "no," a symbol of both relief and limitation. It acknowledges the freedom found in understanding, whether in relationships or other aspects of life; in fact, this is how it has always felt to me. "No" signifies both an end and a beginning, creating a boundary while also opening new horizons. This track delves into the liberation embedded in this realization, hinting at unknown futures. It's like a walk in the dark, with the promise of dawn not far off."
A perfect addition to our alternative dancefloor playlist. 2024 will be the year of VB.
