Tycho and RJD2 are two of the people who have done so, so much for the downtempo/ambient/experimental genre in the past 15+ years or so... it's literally insane. It would be safe to say that their records have shaped the way a lot of producers are viewing music nowadays. I find their stuff an inspiration when it comes to mixing live and electronic music.
That's why it's so nice to see the two names together in this brilliant and very sonically-enhanced take on Tycho's "Apogee" (off Awake) made by RJ. Those drums. I swear. This has been destroying my ears for the past few days, the only thing I can advise you is to find some time for yourself and... let the music do its thing and just space out. After that track, just go for anything else from Tycho, whether that would be Awake or Dive for example.
This remix along with other re-works which we featured before by Com Truise, Christopher Willits, Dusty Brown, Nitemoves, Beacon, Bibio, Baio and Few Nolder will be included in Awake Remixes! released scheduled for 25th of Jan this year. Something to be absolutely stoked about. By the way, going back to those 3 other releases - that Beacon remix is another must-hear.
But lets go back to this version of "Apogee". It won't take long to recognize RJD2's distinct sounds. The chops around minute 3 are such a spot-on detail.
