A few days ago I had the pleasure of meeting the team behind CloudKid - one of the most creative labels / YouTube channels I've seen so far. One thing let to another, and the guys shared with me their upcoming release - the experimental beauty pouring out of your headphones/speakers right now.
I knew the name Tobias Dray, but I didn't recognize the sound. We first set the spotlight on the French producer back in November last year when he teamed up with our mate Daju for a kick-ass remix of .Paak's "Tints". "Pull Me Thru", however, reveals a whole new side of his sound universe. A darker, more intimate side.
This "emotional lofi triumph" will reach straight for your soul. It reminds me of a seriously lofi-ed early Mura Masa and falling in love with it is... just way too easy.
"Pull Me Thru " is Tobias' second single on CloudKid, but I hope far from the last one. When it comes to the track, Tobias shares...
“The songs intensity originated from a really sad point in my life, one of the toughest yet. Those feelings and moods were channeled into the track. The words ‘pull me through’ echo during the whole song because for me sadness is also repetitive. It’s like a cycle and it doesn’t really change. It’s the same state even within a different timeline. The melody changes slightly during the bridge of the song. This was done to express the idea that even in the lowest moments you can still see the light. By being at the bottom, you can only go higher”.
