The epitome of a love song, “Blink” by The Nicholas and Akurei took me by a complete surprise — I wasn’t prepared for the warm sweetness of the intro keys, not to mention the subsequent 2 minutes of sheer musical intimacy.
The beautiful synchrony between lyrics of confession and lullaby-like instrumentals crack the door open to the inner worlds of a person falling in love. It’s the exciting, doubt-rigged early stages of new love and getting to know another that we have all experienced — from questioning the person’s feelings to realizing you’ve already fallen head over heels, have no intention of looking back, yet some trust issues linger. The lyrics go:
bittersweet love on me
Feeling like it’s all I need
Feeling like all I see is you
Tell me what I gotta do
To spend some time with you
You never really show me how you feel
The perfectly ambiguous romantic ending of the track, accompanied by the most gentle vocals yet, leaves you wanting more. All in all, 11/10 on the scale of dreaminess for The Nicholas and Akurei.
