Kicking off this gloomy Saturday with a pure gem on the indie / folk contemporary scene. Meet Thomas Medard AKA The Feather - a Belgium singer/songwriter and producer.
His art, while rooted in the folk scene, gets inspired by today's dream pop / bedroom electronica. "Closer" (out via [PIAS]) marks Thomas' return after a long 6-year pause since his debut release Invisible back in 2013. The level of intimacy and the track's ability to captivate you from the get-go turn this into something you'll be playing over and over again.
Speaking about "Closer", he shares, "Closer" talks about the duality of my relationship to the ‘couple’ and to others. This needs to be alone and the fear of being along at the same time.
“Closer, come closer, closer but not too close”
This balance between loneliness and openness that can mutate from one second to the next, without any warning. To illustrate this feeling, I chose to talk about a specific moment of the day: the few minutes before falling asleep. When the night comes, alone with my thoughts, eyes closed: the mere presence of the other may be enough to ward off the dizziness that surrounds me.
