As soon as I stumbled upon Teddy Roxpin, Smile High, and Felty's 3-track EP make way for a new vibration, I felt an instant feeling of warmth in my stomach.
The instrumental music they create feels very different than the overabundance of jazzy beats we've got all week because it has that special feel of careless playfulness I rarely get to experience. That, and the feeling of a video game for kids (in the most pleasant way possible).
I decided to feature "Nevermind...found it", but I highly recommend booking 10 minutes of your day for the whole experience.
The trio is relatively new to me, but I was quickly impressed with each of the artist's work so far. LA-based Teddy Roxpin is someone who should definitely be on your list if you enjoy the cross-section of hip hop and r&b, especially given the fact that he has worked with artists like Logic, Future, and Hoodie Allen.
Smile High was a driving force behind "Kinks" which we featured back in 2023 and is the alt/solo project of pianist and producer Ben "Smiley" Silverstein, who is part of funk-soul-rock-fusion band The Main Squeeze.
Last, but not least Felty is the alter ego of producer and guitarist Horace Bray.
