SYNC.EXE's latest track "Bloom" manages to achieve two things incredibly well; creating a chillhop/lofi hip-hop song that's over three minutes, and making it interesting enough to keep me hooked throughout.
I'm always overly cautious of chillhop tracks that kick off with a lead melody or chord progression that's overly processed with that staple wobble effect, but somehow SYNC.EXE manages to toe the line perfectly well. Not only that, but the song also manages to evolve in such a way that you'll forget the wobble even existed.
That's what I absolutely adore about this song, while the song structure is there, "Bloom" feels almost improvised throughout, if there are loops in this song, I'm struggling to hear where, and I think that's what made this song, and artist, stand out to me. I'm a big fan of improvised, progressive, and evolving melodies in songs, and this is something SYNC.EXE has achieved.
"Bloom" is everything I want in a super chill track, the bass is deep, the keys are gentle, the drums have you tapping your foot, and the outdoor sample has me escaping in my mind to a far-off place - something I definitely need as I've been stuck in the house for almost two months now...
