Sufjan Stevens is one of my favourite folk artists, with his profound sadness and intimacy, so I am amazed and frustrated that I had no idea about his new album Carrie & Lowell due in March, but at the same time happy that it came in as such a surprise. The album is named after Stevens’ mother and stepfather.
"No Shade In The Shadow Of The Cross" is the first single off this new record and it gives us a taste of an album: if I judge by this song the album will be "simpler" than his previous releases. Plain acoustic guitar and his gentle vocals just can't go wrong. The song is so beautiful.
