I first covered Steven Bamidele back in 2017 and have been admiring his journey ever since. I guess all of the 8 previous features are evidence for that.
Steven's latest sonic journey "Kaleidoscope" is the love song that we all need in our lives. It's warm, groovy, intimate, and most importantly - wholesome.
Pulsing with synth sounds and romanticized serendipity, this gem is Steven's sonic love letter and intimate confession to his girlfriend Lucy. Steven shares, “it’s me saying I know I haven’t been the most present and attentive person, but I want to try and be better.”
“Kaleidoscope” kicks off with a lush Moog Matriarch synth that set the scene and mood. "The repeating, pulsing synth that starts the song off and continues throughout was a random thing I recorded with the synth which I knew I liked, but I didn’t know what to with do it,” Steven further elaborates. That's not the end of the synth story. It turns out that he actually sold the synth, but one day he found this snippet recording and decided to make the best out of it. He adds , "the song just wrote itself over the course of a few days. It felt nice knowing I’d got something out of the synth.”
There's no way we can miss on talking about the beautiful voice of Brighton-based Scarlett Fae, sitting in layered, swirling harmony with Steven's own.
If you like the forward thinking soul / r&b sound of acts like Steve Lacy or The Internet, but blended with the psychedelic vibes of Jordan Rakei, you'll absolutely love this.
