Once again, Loci Records proves to be an absolute breeding ground for talent. Their latest release, Sebastian Davidson and Cir:cle's Odd World EP, is a vibrant, diverse celebration of the downtempo genre; "Vacades" is the third stunning fixture of the tracklist.
Opening with a gentle piano and a suspenseful pad, the intro swells and evolves, accented with unusual sound effects and textures. The drums roll in quickly, unexpected but welcome in their arrival, and upbeat in their energy. Both laid back and uplifting at the same time, the atmosphere seems to lend itself perfectly to an early-morning drive or a late-night commute.
This dichotomy cuts through to the instrumentation too; the rich, organic drums are met by electronic sound effects and background leads that sound straight from another world.
The whole release is well worth a listen; each track is distinctly it's own. My personal favourite is the title (and lead) track "Odd World", but every tune stands it's own ground. Listen here:
