Michigan native Gabriel Sarkis Smith aka Sarkis is bringing the Detroit Motown sound with a modern twist. His endeavors as a traveling sound engineer, who toured the country teaching students how to write and record their own music, found him back in Los Angeles working in recording studios. His musical messages are not forced, as he creates for pleasure, as seen by his latest work Tangerine, which was recorded during studio down-time.
"DreamLand" clashes classic soul with modern production and even more modern messaging in an era of disillusion. Sarkis comments on the side of The American Dream that no one will talk about. Being based himself in L.A., where many flock to cash in on their dreams, Sarkis gives an insider's perspective of the music industry in the very city where dreams go to die. Alas, if there's anything we can always rely on, it's The Funk and The Soul.
