Starting like a minimal, almost spoken-word intimate confession, Samm Henshaw's new single "Troubled Ones" is a soulful trip back in time.
Produced by Josh Grant, the song is about fear and it represents Samm’s unfiltered consciousness poured into the lyrics. He masterfully captures the essence of love's lofty dreams and aspirations, only to be met with the harsh truths of doubt and ego. After the triumph of his debut album Untidy Soul, the talented artist from Southeast London hadn't paused in his creative journey since his initial single release in 2015. I still remember when Colin first covered his "Redemption" 9 years ago. A lot has happened since then and Sam went on working with artists like Adi Oasis, Chance the Rapper, and Allen Stone. A well-deserved international success for one of the most touching voices of our generation.
Opting for a well-deserved respite from the music scene, Samm embarked on a profound personal odyssey, delving into diverse cultures and artistic ventures, and embracing novel encounters along the way. Now, brimming with newfound inspiration and invigorated spirit, Samm emerges from this transformative hiatus, poised and eager to continue his artistic endeavors.
I think a lot of us can relate to that feeling of uncertainty especially when it comes to love. We all crave for it, need it, are afraid of it.
“I was trying to figure out what the new vibe was, and I remember having this sort of discussion about fear. I didn't know how I wanted to write about it, but I wanted to write it differently. So, it is just a song about fear, all these different behaviours you might display based on fear, the way that you might prevent yourself from doing certain things, and just the hold it has over you. It’s also one of my favourite songs for personal reasons.", Samm elaborates.
