As a celebration of Salin's upcoming album Rammana (Mar 28th) and the interview she was kind enough to give for us, I wanted to highlight the album's title track and today's reason to be grooving around the house - "Rammana".
Salin explained in-depth the history of Rammana and the reason why she chose this as the title of her sophomore record. Rammana isn’t just a Thai drum instrument - it’s also a traditional folk song of the Urak Lawoi, a sea-nomadic people with ancestral roots stretching from Madagascar, through the Adang Archipelago, to Papua New Guinea. The theory behind the album's title is that these African rhythms and musical influences traveled by sea, blending with Thai culture to create Rammana. This connection represents the fusion of two cultures, highlighting how they can learn from and unite with one another.
What a wonderful day for music.
