We're a week away from Salin's highly anticipated sophomore album Rammana (March 28th) and I wanted to celebrate the art of the Thai-born drummer and producer with the record's first official single "Puaj" released at the end of 2024.
A fusion of groovy psychedelic percussions and 70s West African influences, "Puaj" highlights the mesmerizing sounds of the bamboo Jew’s harp, which is the foundation of the song. With a rich history spanning cultures worldwide, this unique instrument is especially significant to the Nyah Kur tribe of Thailand. A great way to spread the culture of her home country, Salin shares, "Each note tells a story, echoing the lives and experiences of those who play it. It’s a reminder that music is a universal language, transcending borders and uniting us all in a shared experience of joy and creativity".
As always, Salin manages to couple together topics like spirituality and topics, while keeping it light and fun with her music. I love the rhythm switch at 1:40- adds so much flavour to the composition.
One of the artists I'm utterly excited about in 2025!
