Nothing better than a solid vocal-driven bass electronica.
I'm jumping a bit late on the Saint Jude bandwagon, but this 2020 release titled "Keep the Light Inside the House" blew my mind off. I need to start with the vocal abilities of the South London producer as they are quite distinctive. Accent aside, it somehow reminded me of King Krule, but when the instrumental starts unfolding, there's a serious Floating Points / BICEP vibe.
The track is build heavily on his captivating vocals, mashed with a solid 2-step style beat and bass line heavy enough to carry Thor's hammer. Both club and walk-appropriate, the song can easily throw you into some mind places. The guitar towards the end is the uber dreamy feel and adds to the melancholia entrenched in the composition.
“It might be slightly based on scenes in the film Mirror by Andrei Tarkovsky that I watched the night before and I think some of that film's imagery crept into the lyrics,” shares Saint Jude (real name Jude Woodhead). “Lyrics are the thing I find the hardest to write and I never really think my lyrics are good enough, but with this tune I left them exactly as they were when I first sung them.”
