I've been so excited about this one, honestly. Finally, I have the privilege to feature a track by one of my biggest musical inspirations & artists. The one and only - Rival Consoles.
I love everything about his artistic concept & mind, the brilliant production and live setups, and his never-stopping driving force of making the synthesizers & machines sound like a human organism, using organic & living sounds. A true mastermind in the experimental electronic genres and a genius songwriter.
After covering the title track "Now Is" and "World Turns" from Ryan's upcoming album, entitled Now Is - scheduled for the 14th of October via Erased Tapes, and our super inspiring interview with him (check it out here), now the London-based producer reveals the 4th single called "Running". The track itself has a very simple, yet mesmerizing lead melodic line. If we look at it as a sentence, we will find out a special moment of incompleteness and reflection in every 3rd and 4th bar, not long after a slightly hardcore kick appears, which brings breathlessness to the hitherto dreamed space atmosphere. The lo-fi drum sample recalls some trip-hop flavors, and Amon Tobin even Venetian Snares-influenced-kinda-vibe. A magnificent symbiosis between spacious atmospheres and rhythm that doesn't let you think in one direction. The track itself brings in already heard tricks & technics but with the seal of Rival Consoles.
“I am very into classical music and the kind of structures and ideas they often use, and love the works which take a single melodic idea and create multiple variations from it. That is what I tried to do with this piece, where every single thing is a variation on the opening ten second theme. I spent over one year exploring a huge amount of variations from light to very heavy. Over much time I ended up being more inspired by the subtler, gentler variations, which allow the idea to breathe, which is a theme on this record.”, shares Rival Consoles.
Can't wait for the full album. Enjoy.
