WOW! I'm utterly speechless. I've just discovered an artist who might just be among my favorite Jazz musicians. His name is Richard Spaven and the track "Nova" marks my gateway into his world.
From what I've gathered from his Spirit Beats EP, Spaven has an ABSOLUTELY distinguished arrangement when it comes to his rhythm section, and "Nova" serves as a great example. The drums start and stop in unorthodox ways, and this is among the reasons why they're brimming with character. I could write an essay about these drums, although I can't neglect to mention the utterly soothing vocal performance from Jordan Rakei who seems to do no wrong whenever his breath hits the mic.
