It's always a pleasure to hear quality music from my home country. And it's even nicer when it has a meaningful message.
You've already met Ruth Koleva, the talented Bulgarian neo-soul/r&b singer. Now it's time for the video of the third single "What you say to a girl?", out of her new critically acclaimed album Confidence. Truth, released in November.
Not only is it beautifully shot, but it speaks about an important issue - domestic violence, especially towards women. The story follows the troubled relationship of an abusive couple (Anastassiya Lyutova & Anastas Georgiev) and brings up questions about humility, the patience of women and their inner strength. The director Vito Bonev decided to show the psychological aspect of the problem, rather than the violent, which makes the video even more powerful.
As a socially-engaged person, Ruth shares:
I wanted to raise awareness about the issue through music and visual. I am extremely grateful that an access as legendary Bulgarian actress as Tsvetana Maneva agreed to take part in this. It's a great honor.
Confidence. Truth was recorded in Los Angeles’ Red Bull Studios in 2016 over a period of several weeks with amazing musicians such as Ron Avant (Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals, Jhené Aiko), Jameel Bruuner (The Internet), Gene Coye (Flying Lotus), Georgi Linev (Kan Wakan) and Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra.
