Friday was a glorious day for music! One of my fav producers and someone I had the pleasure of meeting IRL - Poldoore, dropped his fifth studio album Soft Focus, a thematic record that solidifies his place as a fixture of the electronic downtempo scene.
Soft Focus manages to marry an intricately layered production style with warm sonics and a nod to numerous musical influences such as 90’s golden era hip-hop, obscure Northern Soul from the 60’s, mid-century jazz and early-70’s rhythm-and-blues. It really has something unique to offer to anyone out there
The record consists of 10 tracks, each offering individuality, charge, and a new perspective of Thomas. Today we're starting off with a beautiful joint with another familiar face - his long-time friend and collaborator Will Magid aka Balkan Bump who has worked with the likes of Erykah Badu, Solomon Burke, Bonobo and Kenny Burell. The brass player delivers a memorable climax with a crunchy horn harmony that will take you back to the Motown era and will surely get your head nodding.
"Home Again" is pretty much your new coffee substitute. I'm power-starting my Monday and blasting those brass grooves early in the morning countered the grayness in the Sofia skies outside!
