It's very exciting to have a debut EP, even if it's with a new moniker.
The established Japanese pianist & composer Hiroaki Watanabe, better known as re:plus, whose joint album with Osamu Fukuzawa - never, we released last year, released the first body of work of his new artistic project physis.
Life EP showcases Hiroaki's versatility while blending jazz with beats. The 5 songs vary from jazz lofi, through boom-bap, all the way to melancholic chillhop. He elaborates on the meaning, “From start to finish, I wanted to make a project that reflects the highs and lows of the everyday experience we call life”.
I wanted to share with you "Confusion" as I think it's quite interesting, especially coming from him - reminded me of the nostalgic approach of Joe Nora or Flitz&Suppe but with a twist. Samples & keys intertwine over dusty beats for a unique jazz chillhop experience.
