Anderson .Paak-like beats and flow that somehow reminds me of early Mac Miller, US hip hop artists PawPaw Rod feels like one of those gem discoveries. The way his vocals flow above the wobbly bass is pure heaven. I absolutely love the fact that the way he raps feels quite melodic and it just further enhances the instrumental. Dope stuff.
Today's highlight "HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS" is his debut on Godmode, the LA-based label who brought the world Channel Tres, Yaeji, LoveLeo, and more. A twist on early funk-soul, this record was produced by the enigmatic and newly un-retired Smash Brothers, a production team with roots in the Sigma Sound/Philly Soul studio culture of the late 70s and early 80s.
