Tropical and warm, “Exotica” is a blend of African drums, Bossa Nova percussions, and a steel guitar.
Pastel is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer of French Polynesian heritage. This new track certainly carries that island and marine feeling and sounds like you're about to dive into a clear blue horizon and might possibly find a sponge living underneath a pineapple.
"I’m so excited for this release as I’ve been adding more of my heritage to my music lately using traditional instruments. I grew up listening to Tahitian and Hawaiian music, it has always been around me and always influenced my music in some way."
This is a fairly new direction for Pastel, as his tracks typically have more vocals and a heavier influence on synths. Steel guitars are really the defining element of “Exotica,” like most of his other pieces. It's much like a fruitful mixture of surf music and jazz electronica and it's really a vibe.
