In the first half of "Hey You" the instrumental is put together by a beefy bass line and punchy drums whilst soothing vocals glide over the beat. However as the track progresses, we're welcome to a myriad of surprises.
One of these surprises and stand-out moments is definitely the arrival of these sparkly bells that seamlessly hook onto our memory by virtue of their catchiness. I can say the same for the chorus particularly when the words "hey you" are echoed. The irony is that this sounds like quite an upbeat and positive track, whilst the lyrics unveil a different story.
"The song is about the cures society sells for our problems – medication, television, social media – and how they usually just make things worse."
