Today I'll be sending you a few years back to a record that feels perfect on a hazy summer day.
Moods' Music Ruined My Life is going to be our next vinyl recommendation on social media and while I really dislike being on there, I do appreciate the opportunity to go back and re-listen records I fell in love with.
Released in 2021 via Boogie Angst, the 8-track record boasts across genres, but it follows a strict formula - there's nothing better to exist at the strict line where chill and groove meet. Recorded live in Leiden at the height of the pandemic with a full band, this LP seamlessly blends the soulful and jazz-inspired undertones that have become the watermark sound of the project. If you appreciate this sound, one more recommendation - pair this music with a nice cocktail and you're in for a good time.
"There really wasn’t a huge concept or target for this record, it was more about tapping into the pure joy of making and creating music”, Nick elaborates. "The pandemic was such a weird time, there was a lot of uncertainty in all aspects of life. So it almost felt like the perfect time to try something new. Having the band together in one room was a real rush, I liked how the record came together and how each artist brought their own energy to the project."
I absolutely love the neo-soul guitar on "Talk About It" which is probably why that's my favourite track on the Music Ruined My Life. It perfectly fits the unassuming brass, making the song pure bliss.
By the way, we started curating a few new playlists, so "Talk About It" felt like a perfect fit for brunch & chill, in case you're searching for a soundtrack for your next weekend endeavors.
