I've always admired Marie's productivity and constant flow of artistry. She didn't stop creating during her pregnancy and after she had her little boy - just the contrary, it feels like she's more inspired than ever.
"Need You, Pt.1" was logically followed by Pt.2 - which is, hands down, one of my favourite things that she's released. It still carries her signature soulfulness but also jazzy touches and Kendrick-like hip hop vibes, thanks to her frequent collaborator producer Dan Diggas & Philly-based rapper Dayne Jordan.
This piece is from her upcoming Safe Place EP on which she elaborates:
I wrote this EP during lockdown. This was a special time in my life, where everything shifted in a way. I was moving out of my apartment in London, the only place I'd ever lived since I moved. There were no gigs or concerts, society was (and still is) in a strange place, and then there was coronavirus and my pregnancy. It gave me a lot of time to reflect about what really matters and just how lucky we are to be living and experiencing this life.
