It's about time we shine the spotlight on UK producer and multi-instrumentalist Mafro.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of James Blake, Tourist, Jacques Greene, Mafro expertly combines elements of each artist to create a unique and intricate sound. He is an absolute beast when it comes to creating downtempo dance tracks fused with UK garage vibes. In other words, The North Londoner is a genre-blending mastermind.
Mafro's latest sonic endeavor is called Bloom. I've chosen to feature the EP's title track which features the energetic vocals of talented singer and DJ Ell Murphy. I absolutely love the switch at 3:18 which makes "Bloom" a perfect rave anthem. The composition kicks off with a rather laid-back and minimalistic instrumentation allowing listeners to get familiar with Ell's voice. Mafro skillfully builds on top of that until that infamous switch I was referring to.
Mafro's work as a producer for other artists includes collaborations with Ninjatunes' TSHA. He has also produced tracks for the bedroom pop band The Stiir, Kali Claire, and Golds. Mark my words, 2023 is going to be his year. Certainly one of the artists on my electronic watch list.
