I still vividly recall the long 2022 COVID days and the day I got to experience Loyle Carner's third studio album hugo. The amount of late-night sessions alongside "A Lasting Place" and the warm melancholia this song gave me will remain in my mind forever.

One of the people who shaped UK's hip hop scene this past decade, Loyle Carner has built the confidence to experience and open a new chapter in his sonic journey. The 2 new songs, "all i need" and "in my mind", are a taste of his readiness to venture into a new musical direction, inspired by bands like Idles and Fontaines DC. The former is said to shift between “images of rage and hope,” while the latter is described as a "hazy, sun-warmed classic" woven with languid textures and introspective lyricism. His singing voice takes on a bigger role here than ever before.
