Last Friday Loyle Carner dropped his highly anticipated 3rd full-length record hugo.
The British-Guyanese graced us with a wonderful 10-track collection that flows through emotions and confessions. I had the pleasure of deep diving into hugo over the weekend and go through some of the lyrics on the record (something rather unusual for me).
A lot has changed for Loyle since 2019's Not Waving, But Drowning, most notably - becoming a father in late 2020s. On the new record, he heavily gravitates towards topics related to his identity, roots (mixed-race) and parental relationships. A lot to unpack in here, so if you're looking for a rather meaningful sonic exploration, I highly recommend granting yourself an afternoon with hugo.
