Here on the European West Coast, the heat is pretty heavy. Too lazy to dance on upbeat tracks right now - though I did that this very early morning. All I want to do is chilling next to the Atlantic Ocean. Luckily, Breton released a cool remix of West Coast by Lana Del Rey.
I'm not a big fan of the original, to be honest. As a Black Keys aficionado, I like the production made by Dan Auerbach and find its progression quite interresting. But I'm a bit sick with Lana's "I wish I was dead already" attitude, and find her voice too fawning.
Breton's remix adds a more tragical dimension to the song. The remix opens on circular piano notes, followed by a compelling Pink Floyd-ish bass line. Then violins appears when the first verse is repeated, which highlights the double-meaning of the lyrics. Electronic beats are also subtlely injected in the middle of the track. The combo piano/violins during the second pre-chorus evokes an idea of fate in Lana's attraction to her cariño.
As I finish writing this post, the clouds - as the original song - have grown darker. I think it's time for me to stop and let the music thunderstorm blast through your speakers.
