I remember when we first stumbled across Canadian producer kyoshi - it was even before his music was officially out. Then, we got to release his debut, balcony EP, and seeing how much he evolved for 2 year, brings nothing but joy.
Usually leaning more towards melancholic lofi, today's release with him has a surprising take - toward sample-driven boom bap. The double single sweet nights / what i wanted showcases his love for crate-digging, soul & jazz melodies, and the old-school side of instrumental hip-hop.
“This release is the result of my love for many vintage genres, including oldschool instrumental hip-hop from Nujabes and J Dilla, Soul vinyls, Japanese City pop, and more. In my view, a lot of the attitude and vibes of hits in these genres are timeless, and I tried to capture even a sliver of that with these songs. I used a lot of Soul sampling and chopping, along with analog basses to create a retro feel,” kyoshi shared.
