The saxophone on “Lovehate” comes in right at the beginning to smoothly take you by the hand on a heartfelt sonic journey. The slowed jazz sound of Knomad and Luke RV is sweet like dripping honey. Delving into his love-hate relationship with the city, the artist lays down smooth verses accompanied by delicate guitar licks and a subtle drum track.
“Guest in my mind and a stranger at home. I should’ve left this place already, I said that ages ago.”
This song has an interesting history. Knomad wrote the piece in December of 2019 while feeling stagnant and uninspired after moving back to his hometown of Cardiff. Then, he went back to the track and rewrote the whole thing during quarantine as his perspective and creative direction had entirely shifted by then.
The accompanying video takes us through an evening in the life of Knomad in the capital of Wales and plays on the juxtaposition of the lyrics.
