Every time I see someone referencing artists like knxwledge, Flying Lotus and the late J Dilla, I naturally have to stop and pay attention. In the case of Killer Bee's new 7-track EP Neptune, that was a great call.
The up-and-coming New York-based electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist dwells in the experimental beat space and draws inspiration not only from the great aforementioned artists but also from cinema. "II. a bright summer day (free hk)" samples and is named after A Brighter Summer Day, a film by Edward Yang, a renowned Taiwanese director known for his contributions to the New Taiwanese Cinema movement. Yang's films, including Yi Yi and The Terrorizers, are celebrated for their intricate storytelling and exploration of modern life in Taiwan.
I highly recommend checking the full EP as it offers a multi-dimensional and captivating instrumental experience that we don't get to enjoy that much lately.
