Been a minite, but Kan Wakan is back! After his mind-blowing 2018 release Phantasmagoria, Vol. 1, the Bulgaria-born, LA-based artist is back with new material.
"Oh Mother" featuring acclaimed r&b singer Jessica Childress marks the beginning of the journey towards Phantasmagoria, Vol. 2 set for release later this year. The song is a testament to the power that true creative camaraderie has to thrive, even in times of tragedy and isolation. It was composed amid the L.A. protests, as thousands risked their safety to protest George Floyd’s murder. Kan Wakan shares,
The song was written against the backdrop of a global pandemic and a global reckoning on race that we’ve never witnessed before. I woke up during the middle of the night in my K Town studio to the sound of choppers and sirens and had this melody looping in my mind that I quickly recorded on my voice memos. My first thought the next morning was to call Jessica and share it with her.
Tribal beats, soothing ambiance, and classic music elements... as always, we're in for a sonic whirl. In addition, Gueorgui and Jessica are donating their first-month proceeds to the Black Votes Matter - a nonprofit focused on increasing voter registration, creating resources for political education and infrastructure, and advocating for policies that benefit Black communities.
