The return of a dream duo we've all been waiting for.
Today Georgui Linev (AKA Kan Wakan) unveils his brand new cinematic-meets-indie single "Io" featuring the superb vocals of SAÍGO. The track is a cautious message that reflects Kan Wakan's take on a lot of the current world issues and where we stay as a society. I don't know if it's because I am just coming off a serious Khruangbin obsession, but I like the splash of psychedelia in the guitars on "Io". Certainly a lot to unpack and a track that deserves your full dedication.
"Happier in a hive / Workin’ on the rent / What’s the point / to dream of something else?”, croons SAÍGO before touching upon more futuristic topics, backed by Linev’s analogue yet forward-looking sound: “The open market sells attention / Anything could be invention / Who pulled the lever, why did you do it again?”
The politically charged track features a self-directed video by Kan Wakan, showcasing César-nominated actor Paul Hamy as a bare-knuckle boxer battling an invisible opponent. This opponent symbolizes society's struggle to breathe and fight back. The video is a collaborative effort with Sturshel Productions, cinematographer Alexander Stanishev, and editor and colorist Denislav Marinov.
In parallel, Linev is working on a brand new project alongside singer-songwriter Hristo Yordanov called Woomb. Praised by Sirius XM’s David Frick as "so young, so new, already so good live", we're yet to see the full-blown greatness of Woomb later this year with the release of their debut record.
