After taking over the Internet by surprise with his brilliant track "Molases" and later on teaming up with Moses Sumney & Thundercat for "Lonely World", Kan Wakan is back.
This time things are rather tuned down and the whole vibe around "I Would" feels far more dramatic and haunting.... like the soundtrack of a scene happening in a dimmed bar sometime late at night. Writing this, I remembered that Georgui is also creating movie soundtracks, although the previous sentence was not inspired by that fact.
Anyway. Back to "I Would". The track features the gorgeous, smooth voice of Elle Olsun (who also provided vocals for "Molases") layered on top of a very Spanish-inspired minimal guitar chords. Listening to the songs sent my mind to some very exotic places and is pretty much the best reason to love a sound.
Play this, sit back, sooth in... space out.
That's far from the last time you'll hear about Kan Wakan's music. 2017 is shaping to be a big year for the young Bulgarian-born musician as he's gearing up for the release of his triple LP Phantasmagoria. From what I've heard so far it seems like a record to be seriously excited about.
