I can't be happier, as Kan Wakan just released a new single from his upcoming album, the triple LP Phantasmagoria. "I had to laugh" revolves a magical mixture of ambient piano and Rachel Fannan's amazing voice.
I heard the song for the first time on Kan Wakan's show in Sofia, Bulgaria last September and I immediately dived into the fairy tale it created. As he says about it:
To me “I Had To Laugh” feels like a changing of state from one reality to a new. An end of an era.
The chemistry between the two of them is just... wow! And if this isn't exciting enough, Kan Wakan also announced the trailer to Phantasmagoria:
The triple LP s scheduled to be released in May 2017 and it will feature guest vocalists and some surprise collaborations. It took nearly 3 years to make, but it is definitely worth waiting for!
I feel like this has been the most free and creatively challenging period of my life and it has given way to some of my boldest and most instinctive work to date. It’s been a long journey and I’m grateful to make music during a time when taking risks is rewarded and there is increasingly more need for art born out of outrage rather than privilege and also art that inspires the imaginative.
Moreover, Kan Wakan also announced the incredible, out-of-this-world artwork of the album, courtesy of Leszek Bujnowski:
Phantasmagoria is a haunted story, a dream-state - tall and obtuse, a movement through rooms, where walls are windows and doors swing enter/exit on whim-ful moments, making sense as it's path unfurls yet perplexing to explain upon reflection.
The album is availabe for pre-order on Pledge Music and if you are around the West Coast of USA, join Kan Wakan for one of their shows! Get your tickets for SF here and for LA here.
