Whenever I hear a song with live, soul-soaked instrumentals - I’m immediately hooked. Jack Page’s “Play That Too” is the latest tune that’s got me jamming. The mix of the potent percussion, bold brass, and Page’s robust voice makes me feel like I am at a live performance rather than under lockdown in my living room.
Even though the sound of the track is poignant and dynamic, the lyrics tell a much more intimate story. Page tells us about the painful love games he’s been through in an empowering, yet sentimental way. You can feel the weight of his words but at the same time, you are too busy singing “I can play that, too!” to be overcome by the heartache.
There’s an acoustic and slowed breakdown toward the end just to make sure none of that bitterness remains and the track leaves you off on a good note.
