Holy smokes. When v i v sent me Imelda Lizal's 2021 EP The Call I knew I'm in for a good ride, but I had no idea the instant goosebumps this would evoke in me.
Imagine blending the beat skills of knxwledge with 90s Brandi and sprinkled with contemporary vibes a-la H.E.R. I love how lowkey the whole production sounds and I can't praise the Jakarta-based artist enough for creating such a captivating ambiance.
"Heroine" builds up slowly to reach a powerful culmination towards the 2:50 mark where it feels as if the artist is making a stand - her art is beautiful and puissant.
