In 2024, HNNY dropped one of my favorite tracks of the year, "I Let Go", and since then he's been on my radar. Now, I’m hyped to see he’s kicked off this year with a fresh release, "never gonna be the same."

After nearly a decade of not releasing house and electronic music, HNNY marked his return last year with the arrival of Light Shines Through. His latest release carries a similar aesthetic to that found in the album with its gripping, emotive vocal sample floating over lush textures. The repetition of the words "never gonna be the same" paired with how the track progresses makes for a heartwarming yet uplifting listening experience. I can't neglect to mention how the rhythm section is quite low in the mix as the melodic portion takes center stage, thus emphasizing on the emotion aspect of the track.
