"A blend of Hiatus Kaiyote and Flying Lotus."
That was the submission excerpt I read and that's when I knew I'll feature H A U N T E R's "We Are Gonna Be Okay" featuring Lo Artiz. Moreover, this was a premiere request, so hosting this first taste into this sonic world was nothing short than honorable.
I didn't know much about any of the artists, but after hitting the play button I was immediately drawn into a world where neo-soul, jazz and r&b perfectly clash together.
I mean, there's so much to unpack in the 4 minutes and 9 seconds this beauty spans across.
For those curious to know more, H A U N T E R began as a solo project with drummer/producer Sander Bryce. Over time, the project's external producer and multi-instrumentalist, Jonah Levine, joined the band full time to play its first show since the pandemic by playing on a bill with Thundercat and Chanel Tres at the House of Blues in Boston. The live set instantly gained fans and got the band the opportunity to continue playing at the HoB regularly. The goal of H A U N T E R's sophomore album is to develop a new sound that is equally catchy and complex while allowing fans to sing along to what some might consider to be "genre-less” music. The album also features various artists from around the world on each track to showcase different styles and contribute to the storyline of the project.
I was also really impressed by the silky voice of Miami-born, LA-based Lo Artiz. Any Nai Palm will be mind-blown.
"We Are Gonna Be Okay" is leading to an LP that releases at the end of May. Stay tuned for more!
