I must admit: haven't seen that one coming.
LA rocker Hanni El Khatib teams up with Indiana MC Freddie Gibbs for a killer track. "Satin Black" is no hazardous collaboration however. Actually, this is a Converse CONS order for their CONS EP Vol. 3, to celebrate the launch of the eponymous shoe model - hence the name of the song. I guess the brand always had a certain intuition about interresting yet unexpected collaboration. You may recall The Clash x Diplo x Frank Ocean "Hero" or Gorillaz x Andre 3000 x James Murphy "DoYaThing"!? Yeah, All Star collab' has striked again!
"Satin Black" has been produced by Hanni El Khatib - who is also to be released his third album on Monday - and sees Freddie Gibbs rapping out of his comfort zone. Heavy garage rock drums merges with steady beats. Than all of a sudden emerges a shoegaze bridge, where Khatib is singing along. The song evokes a longboard journey in the streets of Venice Beach, hanging around the multicultural hood and than bursting into a dreamy bubble by the beach strand.
Good news is it's in free download, and you're not even compelled to buy a pair of shoes. ;)
