The song reflects on the sudden loss of Gee's father in 2017 and how this affected her relationship with her mother. She explains:

I’ve never really spoken about my loss before. It’s still so hard to process, but I know I’m lucky that I can channel some of the pain through my music. The situation has also shown me that sometimes we need to be mindful and be there to provide emotional support for those who provided us emotional security in the past.
