Spring is already here - or at least that's how Frenchie's "Searching" makes us feel.
The French-English, London-based singer/songwriter (fka The Naked Eye) brought her self-titled debut album last Friday - produced by Femi Temowo (Amy Winehouse, SAULT, Gregory Porter). The focus track "Searching" will put a smile on your face due to its lightness, combined with a captivating drum groove, uplifting strings & Frenchie's delightful soulful vocals, with a touch of jazz throughout (reminded me of Hiatus Kaiyote at times).
She elaborates, "It's about feeling lost in the search for meaning and purpose. For me, writing songs and undergoing therapy training were ways to find direction. Femi and I wrote the song together from scratch, and the track's sound was influenced by contemporary artists like CARRTOONS, and Tom Misch, as well as Motown legends like Stevie Wonder, The Meters, and Aretha Franklin."
The whole 10-piece Frenchie album is an absolute delight, too - make sure to give it a spin.
